Intense Pressure is Mounting - Don't Stop Now
Greetings,
I am exceedingly pleased to report that MORE THAN 300 LETTERS HAVE BEEN SENT TO DEC COMMISSIONER MARTENS requesting that he expand the scope of the draft SGEIS to address a wide variety of additional concerns. Pour it on!!!
Check out some of the pithier letters: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/MarcellusShale/documents/letters/2011/06/...
If you have not yet written, please do so. Use the Generic Concerned Citizen letter as a starting point and embellish it as you see fit. See: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/MarcellusShale/documents/letters/2011/06/...
Send DEC all the new technical, scientific, regulatory and legal data you can find. Join the efforts of doctors, lawyers, teachers, farmers, business owners, professors, engineers, scientists, physicists, students, parents, environmental, civic and conservation groups, planners, elected officials, Buddhist speech therapists, essential oils advocates and, most importantly, concerned citizens. I am not making this up.
Email Commissioner Martens at: joemartens@gw.dec.state.ny.us. Please cc walter@toxicstargeting.com.
I wrote Governor Cuomo to ask him respectfully to rescind the 7/1/11 deadline for revising the draft SGEIS. See: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/MarcellusShale/documents/letters/2011/06/...
Two key Assembly Chairs wrote to request that the Governor expand the scope of the draft SGEIS with regard to health concerns. Their request carries serious weight. See: http://toxicstargeting.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/sweeney.pdf
I am pushing EPA to update their draft SGEIS comments. See letter below.
Start phone-banking the Governor, EPA Region 2 Administrator Enck and DEC Commissioner Martens. Please be respectful. See talking points below. Smile and dial.
Thanks, again, for all your assistance. More to come shortly.
Best regards,
Walter

Re: Executive Order No. 41
Greetings:
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me about Marcellus Shale horizontal hydrfracturing. I know you are very busy.
I am pleased to learn that you were forwarded my letter to Lisa Jackson. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about it.
I reiterate my request that Region 2 immediately update its 12/30/09 draft SGEIS comments to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. As we discussed, I believe this is essential to make sure that DEC fulfills the requirements of Executive Order No. 41.
I also request that EPA provide DEC with all pertinent documents compiled for its National Hydrofracturing Study. I believe DEC must review those documents as part of its efforts to revise its draft SGEIS.
I have attached my letter to Commissioner Martens requesting that he expand the scope of the draft SGEIS. My letter addresses the GA effluent limitations issue that I mentioned. See: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/MarcellusShale/documents/letters/2011/06/...
I have attached my letter to Governor Cuomo asking that he rescind the 7/1/11 deadline for completing the revised draft SGEIS. As you will see, I argue that EPA shares equal authority with DEC with regard to safeguarding New York's environment and public health. See: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/MarcellusShale/documents/letters/2011/06/...
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions I might be able to answer. If you would like me to come by for a meeting, I am happy to do so at your earliest convenience.
Thank you, again.
Best regards,
Walter Hang
