Greetings,
I can hardly believe this, but the Withdraw the Revised Draft SGEIS coalition letter is within hollering distance of 10,000 signatories only 30 days after the campaign began. The current count is 9,477. It took almost a year to get an equal number of signatories to the 2009 Withdraw the Draft SGEIS coalition letter!!!
I am immensely grateful to everyone who signed the coalition letter and is beating the bushes for more signatories. I especially would like to thank Dr. Marybeth Carleton and her MoveOn colleagues. Wow, you totally rock. Thanks, also, to Dr. Larysa Dyrszka, who has worked so hard to organize health professionals on shale gas hazards.
Please keep pushing. Find more signatories BY FORWARDING ALERTS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/MarcellusShale/cuomo/coalition_letter/2011
Governor Cuomo is reportedly under immense and increasing pressure. I am giving you a big heads up that we must make sure he does not strike a deal to allow horizontal hydrofracturing in the Southern Tier while excluding other areas. There is a chance that this deal could get done during a possible Special Session of the Legislature tentatively scheduled for next week. See: http://www.theithacajournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2011111280311 and http://www.capitaltonight.com/2011/12/assembly-told-to-prepare-for-three...
The Governor reportedly could be working with State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Thomas Libous. Senator Libous strongly supports Marcellus Shale drilling in the Southern Tier: http://www.pressconnects.com/article/20111016/NEWS01/110160333/Southern-...
You should immediately contact Governor Cuomo to oppose any drilling proposal that does not afford equal protection to all New Yorkers. If horizontal hydrofracturing is not safe for all areas, it cannot be safe for any areas. That critical shortcoming of the Revised Draft SGEIS is addressed by the coalition letter.
You should also contact your State Senator and Senator Libous ASAP:
Phone: (877) 854-2687
Email: Senator@senatorlibous.com
In conclusion, the Revised Draft SGEIS comment period has been extended until 1/11/12.
CRANK IT UP. POUR IT ON. CALL AND EMAIL GOVERNOR CUOMO INCESSANTLY.
Don't stop till you drop. This is it. Kill the Revised Draft SGEIS. Big Finish.
Stay tuned for more developments.
Best,
Walter
