A bedrock principle of politics is that one of the most effective tools for advocacy action is a well-written, informed letter.  That is because they are incredibly rare.  Anyone who actually knows what is going on is clearly a force to be reckoned with.

I am thrilled to report that since last evening more than 200 simply astounding, eloquent, powerful, personalized messages were sent to members of the Hydraulic Fracturing Advisory Panel to require Governor Cuomo to halt Dr. Shah's "health impact analysis" Review because it: 

a) is being conducted in secret without any public input, 

b) cannot fulfill its mandates and 

c) would be informed by three health investigations that are shockingly incomplete.

Advisory Panel Responsibilities

The Advisory Panel clearly has a responsibility to address the major shortcomings of the DOH Review.

The original DEC release states: 

"New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joe Martens today announced the members of the High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing Advisory Panel that will be charged with: ...developing recommendations to avoid and mitigate impacts to local governments and communities;"

As long as Dr. Shah's DOH Review is NOT completed, a Final SGEIS CANNOT be adopted and New York's nearly-five-year-long shale fracking moratorium REMAINS IN FORCE.
