Take Urgent Action TODAY to Kill the Dominion New Market Pipeline Project
Greetings,
Our next huge pipeline fight is underway. Please take coordinated action with thousands of Fractivists to end New York's addiction to fossil fuels.
"The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword."
The New Market project involves a massive expansion of the existing 200-mile long Dominion pipeline. See: Proposed Dominion New Market Pipeline Map
Dominion's proposed $158 million New Market Pipeline project received conditional approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on 4/28/16. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) issued a Notice of Complete Application on 7/6/16. DEC's comment period ends August 5, 2016.
It is do or die. It is now or never. Spell out your pipeline concerns. Toxics Targeting will forward your letters to the Governor, DEC and Department of Health.
Extensive Toxic Pollution Hazards Documented At Existing Dominion Pipeline
Dominion and other pipeline firms "are required to apply for and obtain a Water Quality Certification from DEC indicating that the proposed activity will not violate water quality standards (emphasis added).
See: Section 401 Certification
This is an onerous mandate. Earlier this year, we documented why the Governor could not fulfill that requirement for the Constitution Pipeline and killed the $783 million project, at least for now.
Governor Cuomo similarly MUST DENY the New Market Section 401 Water Quality Certification because DEC's spill data document Dominion's existing pipeline and compressor stations caused extensive toxic contamination and water pollution hazards that often were not cleaned up to state standards.
See spill summary below and full profiles at: Dominion Pipeline (earlier known as CNG) spills
DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU DROP: CALL GOVERNOR CUOMO NON-STOP
Respectfully call Governor Cuomo during business hours at 518 474 8390.
A. Request that he DENY Section 401 Water Quality Certifications required for the Dominion New Market Pipeline Project and other fossil fuel projects to proceed to construction due to documented pipeline fires, explosions, ruptures and toxic discharges that were neither prevented nor cleaned up to state standards.
B. Tell the Governor he cannot be considered a climate change leader if he approves more pipelines and other infrastructure projects that perpetuate New York's addiction to fossil fuels for decades to come.
C. Request that Governor Cuomo adopt a moratorium on approvals for pipelines, power plants, storage facilities and other fossil fuel infrastructure projects.
With that goal in mind, please sign our newest coalition letter. We are up to nearly 1,000 signatories: Coalition Letter Which Requests That Governor Cuomo Adopt a Statewide Moratorium on Fossil Fuel Project Approvals
Go, Go, Go. Time is of the essence. Pour it on!!!
Onward and upward,
Walter
