More Powerful, Personalized and Persuasive Governor Cuomo Letter Excerpts In Support of Killing Dominion Pipeline and Adopting a Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Approval Moratorium

Governor Cuomo Please DENY All Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Approvals

Dear Governor Cuomo:

I am writing to respectfully request that you deny all fossil fuel infrastructure projects in New York State. As a physician who cares for patients who are struggling with life-threatening illnesses, many of which (cancer, cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, etc) are impacted by environmental factors, it is clear to me that we must prioritize human health, and thus the safety of our environment, over all other concerns.

At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.

New York is in an ideal position to wean itself off of polluting fossil fuels because it has ample availability of natural gas and petroleum products as well as excess electrical generating capacity to meet energy demand for at least ten years.

Instead of reducing fossil fuel consumption, however, your administration has repeatedly approved new infrastructure projects that would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come.

Stop Building Infrastructure for Fossil Fuels

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is Elizabeth W and I live at __ Place in Lynbrook.

I write today because I will consider you a climate-change hypocrite if you approve any more pipelines, compressor stations or gas storage facilities in our state.

I specifically request that you DENY approvals for the Dominion New Market Pipeline Expansion Project and Crestwood Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Methane Gas Storage facilities.

The existing Dominion Pipeline has already caused extensive toxic contamination problems that were never cleaned up. It make no sense to expand that polluting pipeline.

The Crestwood/US Salt facility in Reading, NY has repeatedly polluted Seneca Lake, the source of drinking water for 100,000 residents. That facility has been sanctioned by two consent orders and fined a total of $57,500.00.

The facility has caused extensive toxic contamination problems during your entire tenure as New York Chief Executive. It would be an outrage for you to expand gas storage operations at this polluted site.

Keep New York State clean

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is N Q and I live at __ Road , Freeville NY.

I write today because i voted for a Governor ( you Mister Cuomo ) for his stand in keeping New York State safe from gas and oil drilling and for his effort in decreasing pollution.

Adopt Statewide Moratorium on Fossil Fuel Projects Approvals

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is H W. I am 80 Years old, a Democrat, and I live at __ Road in Olivebridge, New York 12461.

I write today because I believe in you - that you are a conscious and an intelligent leader who considers the environment to be a living entity and understand that the People live well and thrive when their environment is taken care of.

I know you understand that it has been the consensus of serious scientists all over the world that burning fossil fuels contributes HEAVILY to global climate change. As a result, now, at long last, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation MUST RADICALLY REDUCE CONSUMPTION OF OIL, NATURAL GAS AND COAL.

New York is in an ideal position to wean itself off of polluting fossil fuels because it has ample availability of natural gas and petroleum products as well as excess electrical generating capacity to meet energy demand for at least ten years.

But sadly and uncharacteristically, instead of reducing fossil fuel consumption through the various methods available to the power of your position, your administration repeatedly approves new infrastructure projects that would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come. What is it with the OIL and the GAS!!!! Is life just easier to fall into the oil/gas/rollover? You MUST use your grit and your intelligence and lead us away from these hazards to our very lives and the lives of our children.

Getting off the stuff once addicted - it's not easy. But you are young and have already done amazing things to get us away from fracking! You've made New York a NATIONAL LEADER in environmental conciousness and I feel proud to be a New Yorker because of your leadership.

BUT now there are projects that are NOT intelligent and NOT GOOD FOR THE PEOPLE - NOT GOOD FOR MY LITTLE GRANDDAUGHTER NOR ANY OTHER CHILDREN. These no-good projects include the Spectra and Algonquin Incremental Markets natural gas pipelines as well as the Competitive Power Ventures and Cricket Valley gas-fired power plants.

These facilities would exacerbate existing toxic pollution hazards in our state and contribute to global climate change. Approving this breed of new infrastructure is the OPPOSITE of what New York should be doing to solve its fossil fuel problems....the OPPOSITE of intelligent, far sighted protection of our State's waters, our State's earth and the health of our State's People!!

Request That You Deny All Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Approvals

I, therefore, request that you DENY all Section 401 Water Quality Certifications, gas storage permits, air discharge permits and other state authorizations for pipelines, compressor stations, power plants or any fossil fuel infrastructure projects proposed in our state, including the Dominion New Market Pipeline and the Crestwood Liquefied Petroleum Gas and methane gas storage facilities.

Dominion

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is J C and I live at __ Road, Fort Plain, NY 13339....only a few miles from the proposed Dominion compressor at Minden.

I write today because I am deeply concerned about our environment and the people in our communities, and it seems our state government has been slow in using its power to mitigate the effects of the fossil fuel industry.

At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.

New York is in an ideal position to wean itself off of polluting fossil fuels because we have wind, solar and water power available. Increase usage of these sources as well as working toward greater efficiency in use would go a long ways toward reducing our effect on climate change, increase the health and safety of our communities, as well as building energy independence.

Instead of reducing fossil fuel consumption, however, your administration has repeatedly approved new infrastructure projects that would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come.

courage to end dependence on fossil fuels

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is G J. M F and I live at __ Lane; Canandaigua NY 14424.

I write today because I want you to be the courageous governor who with the backing of many, many NY State citizens truly does what's right for NY citizens, NY land, water, air and the planet. We must not allow storage or infrastructure for the fossel fuel industries who only care about more money in their pockets. We must support solar, wind, water thermal and insulation efforts to take the lead here!

Please have an independent scientific investigation of the Seneca Lake salt mines that were years ago, reported to be unstable. Crestwood Industry from Texas wants to use them for storage of fracked gas from other states. PLEASE DO THIS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE MONEY SENECA LAKE'S WINE INDUSTRY, TOURISM-RECREATIONAL AND AGRICULTURE INDUSTRIES BRING NY STATE. DO NOT LET CRESTWOOOD AND TEXAS TAKE NY STATE MONEY AS THEY DESTROY ENVIRONMENT AND THE INDUSTRIES HERE.

Instead of reducing fossil fuel consumption, however, DISGUSTINGLY your administration has repeatedly approved new infrastructure projects that would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come.

fossil fuel infrastructure

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is ____ and I live at __ St. Champlain, NY. I am also a trustee of the Village of Champlain.

I write today because I am very concerned with the future of our state and nation's clean air. As a trustee of a small village and lower income community, putting money into efficient energy sources for all would be a tremendous help. It seems that as a whole, New Yorkers want to become more efficient but financially are unable to do so. With greater incentives and assistance offered by our state we could be a leader in promoting clean energy vs. the continuation of the use of fossil fuels.

As a family we have purchased a hybrid vehicle and have added a pellet stove in our home. We would like to add another stove but the cost to add a liner to our chimney is prohibitive as we live in an 1865 Victorian. Prior to the addition of the stove and new windows we were burning through 275 gallons of fuel oil everything 3 weeks. Prohibitively expensive and completely non efficient for our environment.

Instead of reducing fossil fuel consumption, however, your administration has repeatedly approved new infrastructure projects that would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come.

support of fossil fuel projects

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is E F and I live at __ Circle, Albany, NY 12203 .

I write today because I am distressed by your administration's approval of new infrastructure projects such as the Spectra and Algonquin Incremental Markets natural gas pipelines as well as the Competitive Power Ventures and Cricket Valley gas-fired power plants, all of which would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come.

These facilities would exacerbate existing toxic pollution hazards in our state and contribute to global climate change. Approving new infrastructure is the opposite of what New York should be doing to solve its fossil fuel problems.

I therefore urgently beg you to DENY all Section 401 Water Quality Certifications, gas storage permits, air discharge permits and other state authorizations for pipelines, compressor stations, power plants or any fossil fuel infrastructure projects proposed in our state, including the Dominion New Market Pipeline and the Crestwood Liquefied Petroleum Gas and methane gas storage facilities.

I further urge that the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) DENY all infrastructure approvals because the agency cannot prevent or clean up environmental and public health hazards caused by fossil fuel facilities. As documented below, many toxic releases are never cleaned up to state standards.

No new fossil fuel infrastructure

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is W E. B, PhD and I live at __ Circle, Ithaca.

I write today because I want you to know how strongly I feel about the need to transition to green energy options, especially given the threat to our environment posed by Donald Trump's campaign promises to gut environmental regulations and roll back our national and international commitments to mitigating the potentially devastating effects of climate change.

Deny all fossil fuel infrastructure approvals and support green technology

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is L S and I live at __ Rd., New Hampton NY 10958.

I write today because our planet cannot tolerate continued toxins being pumped into it. Considering the cost still rising to clean up Fukishima Japan nuclear power plant damage, please shut down Indian Point. Everyone in NY will be dead if a catastrophe occurs at Indian Point. Fukishima was primarily farmland. New York is populated primarily by people. The same goes for the CPV plant being built in Wawayanda. The permitting process was illegally obtained by bribery.

Please put resources in NY State toward truly renewable and sustainable sources of energy - not fossil fuel projects, and not nuclear energy

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is J F and I live at __ St., Bronx, NY, 10463.

I am writing to strongly request that you stop expanding New York's reliance on fossil fuels by halting all fossil fuel infrastructure approvals. This action is warranted in order to safeguard the environment and public health from additional toxic contamination hazards.

Instead of reducing fossil fuel consumption, however, your administration has repeatedly approved new infrastructure projects that would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come.

a future for us all

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is Kevin M and I live at ___ St, Groton, NY 13073 .

I write today because I fear deeply for the future, a future we can all live in, a future that is steadily retreating form us if we continue in the direction we are going. To continue investing in new fossil fuel infrastructure is incredibly irresponsible and destructive to ourselves, our children, to all life on Earth.

Governor Cuomo Please DENY All Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Approvals

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is Laurie G and I live in Cambridge NY.

I write today because it is urgent and past time to leave all remaining fossil fuels in the ground. In fact, since there are so many useful products made from them, and they are in dwindling supply, why on earth are we burning instead of keeping them in reserve as the raw material for so many things??? Let's be sensible in that regard if not sane in regard to the future of the planet.

At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.

Fracking in NY

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is Michelle S and I live in NH, but own property in NY where we might retire in a few years.

I write today because this property is in the Marcellus Shale parameters. Here in NH we just fought off the 70 mile 36 in pipeline which was designed to bring fracked gas across NH on its way to the coast to be sold overseas. Not only was there no benefit to NH, where our energy needs are met, and we actually sell electricity to nearby states. But we cannot rest until we make sure that gas stays in the ground and we spend money on the future of alternative energy.
