Check out New York's shocking failure to protect public health and the environment from oil and natural gas extraction hazards. It would be irresponsible for Governor Hochul to permit carbon dioxide shale fracking using inadequate regulatory safeguards adopted circa 1992 that the State does not enforce.
Our New Campaign to Prohibit Carbon Dioxide Shale Fracking in New York is off to an incredible start. Thanks so much.
Happy New Year Fracktivists,
I am pleased to alert you that National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate station WSKG recently covered our efforts to prohibit Carbon Dioxide Shale Fracking proposed in the Southern Tier as well as all forms of High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing in New York combined with horizontal drilling. Thanks to Phoebe Taylor-Vuolo for her reporting.
Our new campaign has received extensive radio, TV and front-page news coverage. We are taking highly organized research, advocacy and organizing action to keep New York 100% free of all forms of shale fracking. We are focusing intense pressure on Governor Hochul that we aim to crank up until she fulfills our coalition letter request.
New York's Hydrofracking Prohibition Has a Giant Non-Water Fracking Loophole That Must be Immediately Closed
Our hard work is critically important because the State Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) hydrofracking prohibition involving 300,000 or more gallons of water does not prevent non-water Carbon Dioxide Marcellus Shale fracking from being permitted pursuant to 1992 Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) regulatory requirements.
This must not be allowed because DEC specifically determined circa 2008 that these outmoded regulations could not safeguard New York from shale fracking. That is why a Supplemental GEIS was required that ultimately determined Carbon Dioxide shale fracking and all other forms of non-water shale fracking must not be permitted anywhere in New York. Unless we require Governor Hochul to enforce this key regulatory determination, New York's Marcellus Shale can be fracked.
I invite you to watch me explain and document this complicated regulatory scenario: Walter Hang's 12/12/23 News Conference to Announce a Campaign to Prohibit Carbon Dioxide Shale Fracking in New York

Please call and keep calling Governor Hochul at 518 474 8390 to echo our specific request word-for-word:
"I request that Governor Hochul immediately prohibit all forms of Marcellus Shale High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing, including using carbon dioxide or other non-water fracking methods, combined with horizontal, directional or vertical drilling."
Please feel free to expound on your background, professional credentials or role in your community as a native New Yorker, elected or appointed official, esteemed artist, musician, business leader, educator, professor, physician, health care professional, attorney, public interest advocate, religious leader, noted author, taxpayer, property owner, Fractivist, etc.
Thanks so much. Onward and upward in the New Year. No Shale Fracking in New York in 2024!!!
Best,
Walter
