SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES RENNIA
Conservation Group Praises Work to Protect Binghamton’s Environment
Binghamton—The Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Teri Rennia in the City of Binghamton mayoral election.
“We are very pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Rennia for election,” said Allan Hochberg, Political Chair of the Susquehanna Group. “We are confident that she will continue her work to protect the environment in the City of Binghamton, for our families and for our future.”
The Group notes Rennia’s votes during her service on Binghamton’s City Council, including her yes vote in support of a two year moratorium on hydrofracking which confirms her varied concerns about hydrofracking, especially its impact on drinking water and associated health risks. Rennia has also been involved with the Design Your Parks Project and has indicated support for sustainable practices, including green jobs initiatives.
“We are deeply grateful to Rennia for her work to pass the Urban Farm Bill and her support for sustainable initiatives within the City of Binghamton,” said Scott Lauffer, chair of the Susquehanna Group, City resident, and coordinator of a VINES community garden in Binghamton’s First Ward. “She is a true public servant who not only votes for the environment, but also leads the fight to protect our area’s clean air, clean water, and special places.”
Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Rennia’s campaign.
“We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Rennia is elected,” said Fiske Hanson, a City of Binghamton resident and community activist. “I and other Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf. We look forward to her victory on election night and to many more years of Rennia fighting for the environment in Binghamton.”
