3-31-16 Continuing Deluge of Letters to Governor Cuomo to Kill the Proposed Constitution Pipeline

Governor Cuomo Please Deny All Section 401 Water Quality Certification Applications for Proposed Fossil Fuel Pipelines in New York

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is M H and I live at __ W 47th St, ___, New York, NY 10036 .

I write today because I am really tired of and disgusted with your support and covert approval of this fracking nonsense - a primary cause of earthquakes in zones which have seen no earthquakes for thousands of years - and your support for Big Oil and Big Gas, which has resulted in a GLUT of oil and natural gas driving down prices for the same. We already have enough oil/natural gas to cover our FULL transition to renewable sources of energy. If you wish to be re-elected by the people of New York State as their governor (or if you desire support from the people for any higher national office), you will deny the applications listed below and work to maintain the quality of New York State water, air, and land.

With those concerns in mind, I request that you deny all pending applications for Water Quality Certification for the proposed Constitution Pipeline and all other natural gas, crude oil and petroleum product infrastructure projects in New York due to the state's well-documented inability to fulfill the requirements of Section 401 of the U. S. Clean Water Act.

Deny a water quality certificate to the Constitution Pipeline

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is B K and I live at ____, Worcester, New York 12197.

I an writing you to ask you to instruct the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to deny a water quality certificate to the Constitution Pipeline (CP). I have studied the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed pipeline. The EIS never explains why CP has insisted on a route along the tops of the mountains between the Pennsylvania boarder and Wright, New York. The route it chose will cross the headwaters of over 250 streams. CP will not drill under these streams but will trench through them. It is impossible that the construction and operation of the pipeline will not harm the quality of New York State's waters both during the construction and the operation phases.

The route CP chose and the methods it intends to use indicate clearly that the people who run CP do not care about the quality of the waters of New York State. They chose this route to avoid more onerous regulations that would apply to a route along the Susquehanna Valley, because the rights-of-ways would be cheaper and because if fracking becomes possible the route would provide access to the Marcellus and Utica shales. The route is far from the towns and cities in the Susquehanna Valley so it will NOT provide energy for them as CP and our State senator and U.S. representatives falsely claim. CP is simply are trying to use their political and financial in Washington, D.C., especially with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, but also with our political representatives, to force through a pipeline that will yield it maximum financial advantage but is not in the best long-term interest of New York State's economy or environment.

CP has essentially bribed local political officials along the proposed route of its pipeline by giving them "community grants" for such projects as firehouses and basketball courts. Such "gifts" to local people are typical of oil companies in third world companies when oil companies buy off the chiefs to the detriments of most people. I hope you will prevent CP from treating New York State as a third world company to be bought off by a foreign oil company.

Comptroller's report adds more reasons to deny water quality certification for methane pipelines

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is D R and I live in Ithaca, NY, at ___ Place.

I write today because the release of Comptroller DiNapoli's report on the explosions, fires, and damage costs from natural gas (methane) pipelines in New York State underscore the health and safety issues that these pipelines continue to pose for residents of the state. With the Constitution pipeline's contractors flaunting the DEC's requirement that they drill underneath all of the 277 waterways that pipeline will cross -- to save our drinking water, our fish and wildlife habitats, and our recreation resources -- and the need to reduce use and leakage from natural gas to make any of the state's and localities' goals to combat climate change, it's incumbent on you as Governor to act decisively to stop any further build-out and traffic in natural gas in New York!

OUR PRECIOUS TREASURE-WATER

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is C K and I live at ____Rome NY.

I write today because the Governor has the privilege of denying the Section 401 Water Quality Certification for the proposed Constitution Pipeline. The DISASTERS we've been witness to in other places-especially in the USA should be the ONLY lesson needed to deny this MOST DANGEROUS PROPOSITION.

IN NYS OUR WATER IS OUR TREASURE-THE BASIS FOR OUR MOST IMPORTANT BUSINESS-AGRICULTURE. ONCE WATER IS POISONED THERE IS ZERO method to clean it-so "mitigation" is an outright LIE. Mitigation is IMPOSSIBLE.

Section 401 Certification

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is DM. My 98 year old father, my husband, our children, and grandchildren share with me the strong conviction that fracking infrastructure is destructive to our community. Taking private property by eminent domain by corporations for profiteering at the expense of the citizens of New York is unethical. Destroying our wetlands, building compressor stations that add methane and volatile organic compounds to our air, and compromising our health is criminal.

Governor Cuomo Please Deny All Section 401 Water Quality Certification Applications for Proposed Fossil Fuel Pipelines in New York

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is L G and I live at ___, Skaneateles, NY 13152.

I write today because I have been feeling very grateful to you since you banned fracking, but there is another thing I feel is important to your legacy in NY state right now, that requires immediate attention from you. I beg you, please prevent the constitution pipeline tree-felling initiation. Cutting down these trees and exercising eminent domain for private profit of a kind that has climate consequences is a civil rights violation that will resonate widely with a huge number of New Yorkers who live in places other than big cities.

Water Quality Certification Applications

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is L C and I live at ____ Road, Trumansburg, NY 14886.

I write today because I am concerned with protecting and preserving the environment and water of New York state, which I am very aware of, since I live in the beautiful Finger Lakes region. Clean water is our most precious resource, and it will only become more imperiled with climate change. These pipelines and all other natural gas, crude oil and petroleum infrastructure projects in our state are short sighted, and threaten our collective future.

Deny pending applications for Water Quality Certification for proposed Constitution Pipeline

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is B B and I live at ___ Ave., Larchmont, NY 10538 .

I write today because you must not risk the health of New Yorkers and of the environment by exposing us to the many dangers to clean water, public safety, and more that come with fracking. Polluted aquifers, earthquakes, and exposure to human failures and accidents can cause irreversible damage to us all.

Section 401

Dear Governor Cuomo:

Our names are J and C T and we live at ___ Rd Vestal, NY, We write today because we are very concerned about the building of fossil fuel infrastructure in New York State. The construction of pipelines in NYS will degrade our environment, encourage increased production of fossil fuels, and slow the implementation of renewable energy sources that we all desperately need. We need to think not only of ourselves and our short term well being and profits, but also for the future of our children and grandchildren.

No more pipelines. Too dangerous and awful.

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is S S and I live at ____ Rd, W. Danby, NY, very close to where the pipeline would go .

I write today because I have seen the devastation in PA from fracking and its subsequent detritus and pollution and radiation. NY is such a beautiful state with a great deal of our economy coming from tourism. If we had a wide swath of construction and subsequent pipeline disintegration going through our beauty and therefore income would decrease dramatically.

Constitution Pipeline

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is A D and I live at ___ Place, White Plains, NY 10603.

I write today because I am deeply concerned about the quality of our water, and any threats to our drinking water through contamination from leaks, or runoff from contaminated sites, and all threats to reservoirs and acquifers. Given the alarm over lead poisoning, it's quite clear that those in charge of seeing to the purity of our water have fallen down on the job. Any foreseeable threat should be examined, and the only conclusion to be drawn vis a vis the Constitution Pipeline, is let's err on the side of safety. This is a boondoggle and should be stopped now.

Constitution Pipeline -- DEC certification water permits

Dear Governor Cuomo:

My name is M C and I live at ___ Drive Binghamton, NY I write today because I object to the new Constitution Pipeline being built in NY as it is unneeded for NY. We know that it is being built to distribute gas from Pennsylvania to the New England area -- and we know it is unwanted in that area, as well. The real goal is to deliver gas for export overseas or wherever the best price will be. A large network of gas pipelines crisscrossing our state and the nation is the goal of the gas industry as it will bring them the largest market and the best price. It does not serve the best interests of the residents of our state.

*******The pipeline is an environmental hazard**************

With those concerns in mind, I request that you deny all pending applications for Water Quality Certification for the proposed Constitution Pipeline and all other natural gas, crude oil and petroleum product infrastructure projects in New York due to the state's well-documented inability to fulfill the requirements of Section 401 of the U. S. Clean Water Act.
