Greetings Fractivists,

Happy Earth Day. It is hard to believe that 54 years ago Peter A. Dykeman, my tenth grade biology teacher at Franklin D. Roosevelt HS in Hyde Park, NY, sent me to the first Earth Day celebration in the New York State Capitol where I met Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller. I still have the pen the Governor gave me after he signed a bill. Mr. Dykeman continues to inspire me. None other than Pete Seeger gave me a ride to the event. I later spoke at the mammoth 20th Anniversary Earth Day celebration in Central Park.

Campaign Update

I write to update you on our Campaign to Prohibit All Forms of Shale Fracking in New York, Including Using Carbon Dioxide.

In recent weeks, Toxics Targeting has generated intense pressure on Governor Hochul to prohibit all forms of High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing. We repeatedly documented the Department of Environmental Conservation's shockingly lax enforcement of its own oil and natural gas extraction regulatory requirements that could apply to proposed carbon dioxide shale fracking in the Southern Tier.

DEC Fails to Resolve Ignitable Natural Gas in Drinking Water Problem in Preble, NY

After a nearly five year delay and major negative media attention, a DEC Regional Oil & Gas Supervisor finally showed up at Frank Holden's house in Preble, NY where natural gas in his drinking water can be lit on fire. After the Supervisor confirmed the presence of natural gas in the water, he conducted a cursory site visit and left without resolving the ignitable drinking water problem or promising to do so.

DEC's own data documents that this Supervisor repeatedly dismissed citizen concerns about natural gas and oil contamination hazards and failed to require comprehensive remediation of those problems.

Conclusion

Please keep calling Governor Hochul at 518 474 8390 to reiterate our: Request That Governor Hochul Prohibit All Forms of High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing Combined With Horizontal Drilling in New York In Order to Prevent Carbon Dioxide Marcellus Shale Natural Gas Extraction

Say: "My name is __ and I live at __. I request that Governor Hochul immediately adopt a comprehensive 100% prohibition of all forms of High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing using water and non-water methods, including carbon dioxide, nitrogen, liquefied petroleum gas or any other substances, combined with horizontal drilling."

Thanks to each and every Fractivist who is helping to keep New York 100% Free of Shale Fracking. More important information shortly.

Onward and upward.

Cheers,

Walter
