deeply concerned about the long-term effects of any hydrofracking in New York State

Dear Governor Cuomo and Ms. Enck,

I live in Syracuse, NY, and am deeply concerned about the long-term effects of any hydrofracking in New York State. We have been watching with horror at what has been happening in Pennsylvania, our neighbors, and cannot fathom why keeping this scourge out of New York isn't a no-brainer. Energy sources really do come and go, over the course of history, but water is the one thing that cannot be replaced, that we absolutely must have for life, that New York State is blessed with in abundance, and that must, above ALL other concerns, be protected.

All of our plans for the development of Dey's Fresh Market in the heart of downtown Syracuse could be derailed if New York State's extensive farmlands are put in jeopardy due to polluted groundwater. We depend on our farms putting out foodstuffs that are not tainted by any of the hundreds of toxins that hydrofracking puts into the ground, and we cannot afford to lose even one of those farms because "somebody goofed."

So that we may trust that you in fact have the long-term interests of New Yorkers and their children at heart, I ask that you support the following:

Expanding the scope of the draft SGEIS to include additional concerns, notably how to manage gas drilling wastewater;

Establishing Citizens and Technical Advisory Committees to help DEC revise the draft SGEIS;

Providing at least 30 days public comment to identify additional issues to be included in the draft SGEIS scope;

Requiring individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracturing permits, "GA effluent limitations" for hydrofracturing, deep well injection and wastewater treatment as well as updating DEC's 1992 GEIS.

Thank you for doing the right thing, which may not be the expedient thing.

Sincerely,

Lonnie C
