I am asking that you ensure our (the public's) health

Dear Govenor Cuomo / Ms. Judith Enck,

I have been following this hydrofracking debate for many months now, both in NY state, locally here in Cortland County, and by watching what is happening in Pennsylvania. I have been out west to see first hand the impacts of similar operations there. In my opinion there seems to be many unresolved issues and many potential negative environmental and public health effects related to the industrial process of hydrofracking.

With my deepest concerns, I am asking that you ensure our (the public's) health and the environmental health in NY state by supporting efforts which expand the scope of the draft SGEIS to include additional concerns, notably how to manage gas drilling wastewater; establish Citizens and Technical Advisory Committees to help DEC revise the draft SGEIS; by providing at least 30 days public comment to identify additional issues to be included in the draft SGEIS scope; and by requiring individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracturing permits, "GA effluent limitations" for hydrofracturing, deep well injection and wastewater treatment as well as updating DEC's 1992 GEIS.

The long term benefits of proceeding cautiously and prudently as the state develops this potential source of new energy easily will outweigh the short term dollars generated without concern for the long term consequences. Please take seriously your responsibility to make sure that this state leaves each location better than we found it for our future generations.

Sincerely, Peter H
