SIZ - Simple Image Zoom

Greetings Activists,

Many thanks to everyone who contacted me to inquire when Toxics Targeting's 2024 Cayuga Lake/New York Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) Cleanup Campaign was going to kick-off. The answer is right now.

Please watch this NEW VIDEO to get an update about where we stand: Toxics Targeting Kicks Off its 2024 Cayuga Lake/New York Harmful Algal Blooms Cleanup Campaign

There are 1,046 signatories to our: Coalition Letter Request That Governor Hochul Take Immediate Regulatory Enforcement Action to Eliminate Harmful Algal Blooms Across New York

Governor Hochul did not provide a favorable reply to our Coalition Letter request. Yet. We have to keep cranking up the heat until she does.

HABs are beginning to pollute New York's waters. A long, hot summer looms that will cause HABs hither and yon. Please Take Urgent Action Today to Hold Governor Hochul Strictly Accountable For Her 12/12/23 Promise: "No one in New York should ever fear that they don't have access to clean water."

The Governor actually promised on 12/12/23:

"No one in New York should ever fear that they don't have access to clean water," Governor Hochul said. "We are reassuring communities across New York that your kids, grandkids, and great grandkids will always have access to clean and safe water.

Everyone who lives on a waterbody engulfed with HABs or obtains their drinking water from a lake, river or reservoir infested with HABs must call Governor Hochul at 518 474 8390 to demand that she fulfill her 'clean and safe water" promise. Keep calling. Do not stop until you drop. Call the Governor all summer long or until she provides a favorable reply to our respectful: Coalition Letter Request That Governor Hochul Take Immediate Regulatory Enforcement Action to Eliminate Harmful Algal Blooms Across New York

Call 518 474 8390 and repeat after me word for word:

"Governor, on 12/12/23 you promised that, "No one in New York should ever fear that they don't have access to clean water." You also promised, "We are reassuring communities across New York that your kids, grandkids, and great grandkids will always have access to clean and safe water." I am calling to demand that you keep your word.

Property HAB Concerns

Governor, I live on ____ Lake, ___ River or ___ Bay that is plagued with Harmful Algal Blooms. I am a signatory to a Coalition Letter Request That Governor Hochul Take Immediate Regulatory Enforcement Action to Eliminate Harmful Algal Blooms Across New York. I demand that you immediately require a Total Maximum Daily Load Comprehensive Watershed Cleanup Plan to be adopted to eliminate HABs that threaten my home and property value.

Drinking Water HAB Concerns

Governor, I drink water supplied from ____ Reservoir, ___ Lake, ___ River, ___ Bay that is inundated with Harmful Algal Blooms. I am a signatory to a Coalition Letter Request That Governor Hochul Take Immediate Regulatory Enforcement Action to Eliminate Harmful Algal Blooms Across New York. I demand that you immediately require a Total Maximum Daily Load Comprehensive Watershed Cleanup Plan to be adopted to eliminate HABs that threaten my drinking water and my health.

You get the idea. After you echo this detailed "ask," please feel free to say whatever else you like, within reason. Be your powerful, respectful, eloquent and knowledgeable best. Please try to stay "on-message." Demand a TMDL within two years for every waterbody in New York impaired with HABs.

2023 Was Another Deplorable Record-Setting Year Across New York For HABs

In 2023, a total of 1,150 HABs was confirmed in a total of 207 waterbodies. Cayuga Lake (at least 77 HABs) again suffered the highest number of confirmed HABs in New York with Owasco Lake (at least 68 HABs) a close second. I will update the year-end HABs tally shortly.

Impaired waterbodies with confirmed HABs include water supply sources for approximately 10 million New Yorkers: Cannonsville Reservoir (NYC/Delaware Co.), Owasco Lake (Auburn/Cayuga Co.), Cayuga Lake (Cayuga, Seneca, Tompkins Co.), Skaneateles Lake (Syracuse and Skaneateles/Onondaga, Cayuga, Cortland Co.), Hemlock Lake (Rochester/Livingston, Ontario Co.), Basic Creek Reservoir (Albany/Albany Co.), Amawalk Reservoir (NYC/Westchester Co.), Bog Brook Reservoir (NYC/Putnam Co.), DeRuyter Reservoir (Madison, Onondaga Co.), Jamesville Reservoir (Onondaga Co.) as well as Lake George, Lake Ontario and Lake Champlain.

Conclusion

I want to thank each and every activist who is working hard to help safeguard water quality and public health in New York as part of Toxics Targeting's coalition campaigns.

We are now working simultaneously on three major campaigns that are intensifying and maximizing each of our individual efforts:

Cayuga Lake/New York Harmful Algal Blooms Cleanup Campaign

New York Parkinson's Prevention Campaign

Campaign to Prohibit All Forms of Shale Fracking in New York, Including Using Carbon Dioxide

Please become signatories to all our coalition letters. Please circulate my alerts. We are just getting fired up.

Thanks so much. Onward and upward.

Very best,

Walter
